Persecute

by White Feather

How do you define persecute? The American Heritage Dictionary, published by Dell Publishing, defines it thusly:

Quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Persecute - 1. to oppress or harass with ill-treatment, 2. To annoy persistently. (page 511 of the paperback edition)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In light of this definition, how many people have you persecuted lately? And how many times have you been persecuted lately?

Persecution is something we do to criminals. Why do we oppress, harass, and annoy them? What does that accomplish?

How many times have we been oppressed? Harassed? Annoyed?

Is this a duality we're stuck in? What's the difference between persecution and forgiveness? Is forgiveness what stops this dualistic treadmill? Or is the answer a conscious ceasing of persecution? Or a combination of both? How do we gain a wholeness of understanding of this duality so that we can initiate movement towards new ideas?

Like so many verbs, persecute has its opposite polarity; being persecuted. How can we go beyond this duality? Could it be true that every ounce of persecution we project outwards comes back to us exponentially? Could it be true that every ounce of persecution that we feel is being perpetrated against us is projected outwards and comes back to us exponentially?

What happens when you start walking faster on a treadmill?

You go faster; that's all.

One last question: What is the word cute doing in persecute?
